Did you know that you could use a book as a means to achieve peak performance in athletics?

Not because the book is so heavy it can be used as a dumbbell but because they exercise the mind which are increasingly becoming part of elite athletes’s everyday training.

We believe there is a positive correlation between reading and sports performance, here is why:

Since reading is educational in nature, every book offers new and different learning opportunities. Some may apply directly to life as an athlete, others may not. No matter what, the lessons learned and the knowledge gained from being a reader are invaluable, because unlike athletics, reading lasts forever, so its benefits continue to serve in the game of life, the most important of them all, long after the ball stops bouncing or the hockey puck stops gliding.

If you look at some of the most important benefits of reading for children and then compare it to some of the most important benefits of playing sports, you will see that positive correlation

BENEFITS OF READING

  • Improves the functioning of the brain.
  • Increases Vocabulary.
  • Improves theory of mind.
  • Increases Knowledge.
  • Sharpens Memory.
  • Strengthens Writing Skills.
  • Fosters Concentration.

BENEFITS OF PLAYING SPORTS
  • Better vision. Children who spend time outdoors playing, especially organized sports, are less likely to develop vision problems.
  • Healthy weight.
  • Motor skills development.
  • Social skills development.
  • Self-confidence.
  • Sportsmanship.
  • Fun and enjoyment.
  • Friendship.
LeBron James made headlines for reading the Hunger Games trilogy in front of his locker before dominating the 2012 NBA Playoffs. It wasn’t just a one-time thing, either, because LeBron made reading a prominent part of his pre-game ritual during Miami’s championship run.

That being said, we have a great proposition for you!

Looking to help offset certain costs (tournament entry fees, new jerseys, etc.) related to your sport team? If you didn’t know already, we have a great fundraising program for you:

RAISE UP TO $115 PER CARD FOR YOUR PLAYER’S ACCOUNT, HASSLE-FREE. HERE’S HOW:
Step #1: Interested participants are given one (or two) scratch card(s) each. Each card costs $10 but has the potential to raise $125; therefore, it is deducted from your funds at the end of the campaign!
Step #2: Participants invite supporters to scratch one dot to reveal donation amount they owe and amount of minutes participant needs to read. Dots reveal dollar amounts ranging from $1.00 to $10.00 and reading minutes ranging from 1 to 10 minutes. For every dollar raised, one minute is to be read!
Reward: Each sponsor is given a QR CODE to access our online coupon sheet with great savings on awesome stuff (kid & adult books, candles, soaps, bath bubbles, digital reading log program, etc.) as a thank you gift!

Step #3: Participant collects all of the donations. Participant logs in all of their assigned minutes on the reading log provided in the card. (If you are already reading on a daily basis due to school homework, this will be easy peasy)!
Step #4: Once this is completed, participant puts the money and card in the provided envelope and hands the sealed envelope back to me before or on November 14th, 2021 (our suggested due date)!
Fun fact: As of September 2021, over 60 sports teams have used this fundraising program! Who knew sports and reading were a good mix! (Well we kinda did!)
SO QUICK, SO EASY, SO FUN & VERY PROFITABLE!

CASE STUDY

A U8 Co-Ed Hockey Team on Vancouver Island hosted a “Read-A-Thon Scratch Card” Fundraiser to help offset the cost of tournament fees.Below, you will find out why our “Read-A-Thon Scratch Card” fundraising program is the perfect solution to team fundraising – “Who Knew Sports and Reading Went Together!”

  • By identifying 24+ supporters, players typically raised $115-$230.
  • The team was invoiced after their fundraiser was over to pay for the cost of the cards ($10 per card), so no upfront costs!
  • The Fundraising Coordinator printed off our incentive “Bookworms” card and gave each participant (player) a little reward to start off their fundraising campaign on the right foot!
  • Many older siblings also wanted their own card to support their younger sibling (therefore, an additional $115 was put in those player’s accounts).
  • Families even got in touch with their out-of-town family members via FaceTime to pick a circle and then would be sent the money via e-transfer.
  • Once the other teams in their association found out about this fundraiser, 5 more teams signed up!
